Sortilèges et carafons tells and sings of the wanderings of Anaïs, a mischievous little girl who is curious about everything and has a boundless imagination.

She takes the reader into her magical world, which she invents at school or in her bedroom at night, when monsters crawl out from under the bed. Through sung passages and colorful illustrations, we’re happily swept away into the zany world of this modern-day Alice, thanks in large part to the numerous musical excerpts that blend seamlessly with the narration.

Originally, Sortilèges et carafons was a stage production created by soprano Gaëlle Méchaly and her collaborator, Argentine pianist Ezequiel Spucches, to which author Anne Loyer added the words and which is narrated by Nathalie Dessay.

Telerama: “Is opera too serious for children? No! When soprano Gaëlle Méchaly takes on classical melodies, […] a world that resonates with young children takes shape through a clever blend of unbridled imagination and everyday life.”
